A tea produced in Sri Lanka named as Ceylon Tea. Ceylon is a former name of Sri Lanka, which was given by the British Crown Colony, and it is based on the “Ceilão” name given by the Portuguese Empire. But still, Sri Lanka uses the old name for the tea trade.
Basically, Sri Lanka has three types of tea.
- Low grown tea: sea level to 600m
- Mid Grown tea: 600m to 1,200m
- High grown tea: above 1,200m
Ceylon Black Tea is produced from a higher elevation tea garden located in the center of Sri Lanka. Altitude is the most important factor in Ceylon Tea. All the tea tastes are based on this altitude and climate.
